Taylor is passionate about partnering with each patient and providing them with individualized tools to improve their health and quality of life.
Her dedication to educating her patients on how to find balance and achieve optimal health through the use of functional medicine and nutritional therapy stems partly from her own previous health struggles. Her journey of recovery through proper nutrition, exercise, mind-body and medical interventions has propelled her devotion to helping others in need of a change: to get better, to feel better, and to stay better.
Read her story below:
My health issues began my first year of college when I started to struggle with negative body image. I ate what I thought was healthy at the time – a restrictive diet consisting of low calorie processed foods, whole grains and artificial sweeteners. After just a few months following this diet, I found myself underweight and severely fatigued with thinning hair, major abdominal cramping, bloating, and pain. Even though I liked how I looked on the outside, I felt terrible and knew that something wasn’t right on the inside.
Throughout my early 20’s I tried many different dietary approaches including multiple elimination diets, raw vegan, vegetarian, high protein, ketogenic, and paleo protocols. I saw slight improvement, but these restrictive protocols forced me into an unhealthy cycle of eating and restricting certain foods in hopes to feel better and look better.
In my mid-20’s while working at a fast paced, world-renowned medical clinic, my symptoms took a turn for the worst. I started to experience severe gastrointestinal pain and discomfort, feeling like I was reacting to every food in sight. I started gaining weight for no apparent reason and was so fatigued that I could hardly make it through the day. From a thorough functional medicine work-up, I discovered that I had HPA axis dysregulation (“adrenal fatigue”), hypothyroidism, estrogen dominance, and a leaky gut caused by multiple gastrointestinal infections along with stress. To make matters worse, a month later I was diagnosed with two melanoma skin cancers.
I knew that something had to change…
I started to drastically shift my life around. I worked on daily stress management, tailored my diet to support my thyroid and balance my hormones, decreased my total toxic burden, implemented moderate exercise, healed my gut, and most importantly, worked on a more positive body image and mental mindset.
I am now very grateful to say that my gastrointestinal symptoms are completely gone. My thyroid is back to normal. My food sensitivities have drastically decreased. My weight has normalized, and I am cancer-free. Even though life is stressful at times, I can handle my stress in a more effective and less harmful way. I now have energy and vitality to participate in and genuinely enjoy my life and follow the purpose to which I feel called.
I am a firm believer that God allows struggles to happen in our lives so that we can use them to strengthen our testimony and to help others in similar situations. I know that my health journey has made me a better practitioner because I can understand some of what my patients are going through.
I am fully committed to helping my patients regain their own health and be able to live and enjoy life to their fullest potential. As a functional medicine trained dietitian, my aim is to assess the whole person, prevent illness, and treat the root cause(s) of disease, not just manage a specific set of symptoms. I am committed to caring and advocating for my patients in order to obtain the best possible health outcomes.
